LAYING THE FOUNDATION FOR A WORLD-CLASS EXPERIENCE
Parque Municipal Summit, Panama: Integrated Master Plan & Business Plan

Zoo Advisors engaged with long-term partner AFH Design to create an integrated master and business plan to identify how to best enhance the animal and guest experience of the Parque Municipal Summit botanical garden and zoo in Panama City. The Parque was created in 1923 by the former company of the Panama Canal, and a zoo was added in the 1960’s. To further the Parque’s conservation mission, take advantage of the ideal tropical location, and become a greater attraction for the area, major improvements and expansions would be required.

As part of the planning process, ZA identified new revenue opportunities, sustainability initiatives, and conducted market and competitive analyses via participation in onsite workshops and stakeholder interviews. The plan was then presented to the local government to secure funding.

As a result, the first phase has been completed, which includes a new entrance with a plaza, guest service center, restrooms, gift shop, first aid, and restaurant; and an expanded parking lot for 150 vehicles (increased from 20) at a cost of $5.5M. These improvements represent an exciting first step toward creating a destination for visitors from Panama and beyond, as well as a community recreation space for their citizens to enjoy.

IS THE LARGEST AQUARIUM IN THE MIDDLE EAST FEASIBLE?
Oman Aquarium: Feasibility Study

Owing to Zoo Advisors’ international reputation for completing feasibility research for zoological facilities, our firm was approached to test the financial viability of a bold proposition: the new largest aquarium in the Middle East. By assessing the business plan, market viability, and operational protocols, ZA developed a detailed analysis and projection model to test and demonstrate the proposed Aquarium’s economic sustainability. The study yielded that the Aquarium would conservatively attract between 300-400 thousand visitors a year. A proposed adjoining shopping mall and attractions would add to this projection.

The Oman Aquarium opened its doors in April 2019 and showcases over 30,000 marine animals, the majority of which are local sea life, where conservation, education, and research are key priorities, as evidenced through collaborations with local universities for various academic studies and a program to develop local university graduates as aquarists for employment purposes.

AN INNOVATIVE WILDLIFE FACILITY
Middle East Wildlife Facility: Business & Feasibility Planning

Zoo Advisors was engaged to partner with a team of designers to develop a concept for an innovative wildlife facility in the Middle East. Working with the ZoOceanarium Group, Bernard Harrison, and The Portico Group, ZA conducted a business and feasibility study to identify revenue opportunities, market potential, and attendance projections. ZA worked to quantify market potential and opportunities and participated in onsite workshops to gain a more complete understanding of the culture and needs of the market.

The result was a deliverable that achieved the clients’ goals of stressing the importance of conservation and education while balancing mission and margin.

A NATIVE SOUTH AMERICAN AQUARIUM
Peru National Aquarium: Business & Feasibility Planning

Zoo Advisors partnered with Studio Hanson|Roberts, a design firm and long-time partner, to conduct a business and feasibility study for a proposed new $100M+ aquarium in Lima, Peru that would focus exclusively on Peruvian species.

Through participation in onsite workshops, ZA created a financial model supporting the proposed aquarium’s organizational strategy, goals, revenue, and funding to determine potential return and feasibility of exhibitions and programs, integrating with SHR’s design plan for presentation to key stakeholders.

ZA worked with a diverse team of experts to help develop concepts and strategies for immersive visitor experiences, sustainable strategies for energy reduction and water use, as well as identify how best to maximize education and mission-focused programs to advance the mission of the proposed Aquarium.

Even though using “lorem ipsum” often arouses curiosity due to its resemblance to classical Latin, it is not intended to have meaning. Where text is visible in a document, people tend to focus on the textual content rather than upon overall presentation.
